March 13th Journal: Experiences with Writing in College.
Topic: Critical Analysis
Critical analysis is the process of reading or observing a piece or experience and expressing the writers' own opinion about it. For this reason, it is a very subjective type of writing as it incorporated the opinion of the creator into the process. During the class, we talked about Critical analysis when we did a project called the "Civic Literacy Project". There is more to come about this project in the later pieces of work on this website, but this is a brief and general description for now: Civic Literacy is a type of literacy that illustrates the knowledge of how to actively participate in one's community through positive change and development.
This piece of writing takes a step back into this concept to show a more every-day example of critical analysis; I wrote this journal analyzing my own experiences in writing throughout my schooling career. Obviously, I started the journal with no particular expectation of where it might go, and discovered new ideas along the writing process. At the end, I finally got to the conclusion of connecting my writing style to my other activities such as music.
I selected this piece to be a part of my portfolio because I thought it would be interesting to show a crucial part of class that took place every day. This was my typical style of writing in journal entries almost every day in the beginning of class. I was given a general topic to write about and my mind was set free in the world of literacy.
